A friend of mine once told me that
I only liked “bad” movies. Not true! I love all kinds
of movies. Listed below are ten of my all-time favorite
“good” movies:
- GONE WITH THE WIND: I’ve
lost count of the number of times I’ve seen this movie.
If I’m channel surfing and I stumble upon it, I’ll
watch it to the very end. In my opinion, this is
one of the most romantic movies of all times. It
takes place before, during and after the Civil War
and stars Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara who’ll do
whatever it takes to hold onto Tara, her family plantation.
- LAURA: When I was a kid,
this was one of the first “old” movies I ever saw.
It was filmed in black and white and it’s what’s known
as a “film noir.” The story is very smart and clever:
a police detective investigating a murder falls in
love with the victim, Laura, after seeing her portrait.
The movie then goes into flashback and we learn all
about her. Gene Tierney plays Laura and she’s absolutely
beautiful in this movie. This is another move that
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen.
- TERMS OF ENDEARMENT: Have
the Kleenex ready if you’re going to watch this one
because you WILL cry!
- ALL ABOUT EVE: Set in the
world of the theater, it stars Bette Davis as Margo
Channing, who takes a young woman named Eve under
her wing and then lives to regret it when Eve backstabs
Margo as she claws her way to the top. Great dialogue!
Great performances!
- MILDRED PIERCE: Joan Crawford
won her only Oscar playing Mildred Pierce, a woman
who will do anything for her two daughters. One of
those daughters, Veda, is naaassty!
- HEATHERS: A terrific black
comedy that will keep you laughing! And so true to
life. There ARE nasty people like this in high school!
- CLUELESS: Who doesn’t love
Alicia Silverstone as Cher? This movie will make
you laugh and give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
- GILDA: Another film noir
from the 1940s. It stars Rita Hayworth as Gilda,
who’s still in love with her ex-boyfriend, Johnny,
but messes up when she marries another man, who Johnny
works for. Yikes!
- LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN: This
movie starred Gene Tierney from Laura, who
was breathingly beautiful once again. She’s a woman
who will do ANYTHING to get what she wants. ANYTHING.
It’s filmed in technicolor, which was new in Hollywood
at the time. The color is amazing!
- WORKING GIRL: One of my
favorite romantic comedies. You’ll love it!
